In 2008, on a lark, I attempted to grow pumpkins. Unless you've a really big yard, I disrecommend it; the vines absolutely took over the garden. Into the hedge and shrubs, across the lawn, all through the beds, everywhere. One vine even traveled along the top of the hedge and jumped onto the "No Parking This Side of Street" sign on East Street. I had to drastically cut them all back when the neighborhood cats and dogs began disappearing.
These are the little--and not so little--tendrils that grab onto whatever they can to further the relentless meandering. They can be anywhere from a couple inches to a foot or more long.
But I got a few pumpkins...
