Flora, Fauna, and Mildred.

Ho, hum. Another gorgeous day.

On island:



Getting a "nature red in tooth and claw" lesson:


Wild iris (about as big around as a quarter):



This mushroom, called not surprisingly a cup fungi, develops its spores in cups in such a way that, at the proper time, in an effort at propagation, they're splashed out by rainwater. God was having some fun that day.



Since my own spouse refused my kayaking company, I had to ride with Mildred. Actually, I went out in a single a couple of times and it is more fun, but Mildred--a relatively recent widow who lived near us across the river in Jersey--needed a partner this day. Sandi was kind enough to volunteer me.
