Cape Cod looks like a crooked arm jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean (see 3/1 entry), with the Atlantic, Nantucket Sound, and Vineyard Sound on the outside and Cape Cod Bay on the inside. At low tide on the bay side you can walk a half-mile or more out onto the flats, around scurrying crabs and floating jellyfish, over schools of little fish, past scallop shells and seaweed, and through tidal pools and meandering saltwater streams. It pays to know when the tide is set to start back in if you're not a good swimmer!
