Cape Cod.

We vacationed on Cape Cod every year for fifteen straight years beginning in 1995, missing finally in 2010. And I do mean missed. We love it there and I’m going to try and show you why. But before I do…a point of interest.

I know this is going to sound crazy but, believe it or not, there was a time in the not-too-distant past when there weren’t Ipods. I know, I know, it's crazy. Ipods replaced CDs, which replaced cassette tapes, which replaced vinyl albums. If you don’t believe me, ask your Dad about “records”.

And an even longer time ago, a very long, long time ago (right after The Dark Ages and just before Al Gore invented the Internet), if you wanted to make a phone call when you were away from home, you had to use something called a phone booth. There were no cell phones. That’s right: prior to cell phones, people out in a public place had to actually work at being offensive; now it just comes naturally to them, like flatulence or failed deodorant.

In keeping with our “Relentless Advancement Of Technologies That Improve Your Life” theme, photos were at one time created using something called “film”. You bought a little spool of this plasticky stuff, you stuck it into the back of your camera, you took the picture and “exposed” the film. When you had taken 24 pictures you took the plasticky stuff to the K-Mart and they overcharged you to “develop” the film and print out the pictures. I am not making this up.

These first few photos were taken prior to 2004, before I bought my first digital camera. It’s so much cheaper with digital I can now take hundreds of really bad photographs for the same amount of money it took to take 24 just seven years ago. Ain’t technology grand?

We've stayed in six or seven different places on the Cape, but after the first year too far up (near Wellfleet) we've continued to stay somewhere in or near Orleans as it's just centrally located to all the places we like to go. These pictures are from The Cove, a motel right at the innermost end of Town Cove; an intrepid kayaker could start there and end up in the Atlantic. Here's Cape Cod--I put an X at Orleans. And no, I didn't take this one...
And here's Orleans and Town Cove, with an X where The Cove Motel sits.

And here are two of the dock at The Cove, taken with the plasticky stuff. Click to enlarge.
